At Extendicare, long-term care is more of a hub than a destination.
Extendicare operates a chronic care unit and 96 long-term care homes across Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta with capacity to provide 24-7 care and support to nearly 13,000 residents. We offer:
- Long-stay services designed for those who require ongoing round the clock specialized nursing and personal care and can no longer be cared for safely at home or in an assisted living facility due to illness, injury, frailty, or other health challenges.
- Short-stay services including respite for families; convalescent and rehabilitative care for patients who have had a prolonged acute or chronic illness or who may have recently been injured or undergone surgery; and rapid response elder care for families in crisis or to prevent non-urgent admission to hospital.
- Complex continuing care for patients living with chronic and complex health issues, such as diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease and dementia who require complex medical and skilled nursing care in an inpatient setting.
Our services include licensed professional nursing, personal care on a 24-hour basis, access to a physician and other health professionals, medication administration, restorative care and specialized therapies as well as social, recreational and exercise programs designed to meet the individual needs of residents and patients.
We also provide hospitality services including pleasurable dining and special diets, and specialized programs to address the needs to persons with responsive behaviours and advanced dementia, complex chronic diseases or at end of life.
Not all Extendicare homes offer all services. Please check with the individual home to find out what types of care programs they offer.
