CTV Kitchener featured a recent celebration at Extendicare Columbia Forest filled with holiday cheer!

Residents, families, and team members came together to “Light Up the Season” with festive displays, which included thousands of mini bulbs and decorations, and fun activities, including a visit from Santa.

Light Up the Season is part of a national Extendicare celebration to fete the holidays.

“Being part of this event and spreading the cheer – watching families of grandparents, children, and grandchildren come together to celebrate together really is the best part of what we do,” said Trudy, Executive Director of Extendicare Columbia Forest.

“I love gathering with my family,” explained Marie, who lives at Extendicare Columbia Forest. “I also love singing Christmas songs.”

“The holidays are really joyful, and we want everyone to have some cheer,” said Toby, who also lives at the long-term care home.

Shalagh Cassidy, Recreation Manager at Extendicare Columbia Forest, spoke with CTV and said that events like this can help lift peoples’ spirits and “are an amazing opportunity to come together as family, and friends.”

The twinkle of the holidays continues to make a positive impact on residents, families, and team members.

“I’ve always loved the lights,” said Theresa, another resident. “They are so bright and beautiful. We really do want to wish everyone a terrific holiday season.”
