We have a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Not only do we work very hard to integrate residents into our community and feel at home, we’re also committed to making families feel at home here too. The following are some of the measures we take to help our residents settle in and also help family members feel comfortable and get involved:

• New residents and family members meet the resident’s primary caregiver and nurse so they can begin working on a care plan and start building a relationship built on trust and respect.
• Family members are encouraged and welcomed to participate in activities with their loved one.
• Family members, along with their loved one participate actively in all aspects of the development of the resident Care Plan.
• We encourage new residents to personalize their rooms with family photos and other meaningful items to make it feel more like home.
• We have an open door policy so whenever a family member wants to talk, we’re here to listen. Plus, our Social Worker is always available to talk privately about coping with the stress and emotions of care giving.

We connect you to the community.

Maintaining strong connections to others is essential to keeping people active and involved.

Getting you out into the community and bringing the community into our home is important to your quality of life. Here are some of the ways in which the residents and staff get involved with the community, and how the community connects with us:

• Our monthly excursions include everything from shopping excursions, lunch, movies and theatre to having fun at the Casino, touring of the Bush Plane Museum and more.
• In the fall, we organize a tour out into the countryside to enjoy the breathtaking colours of autumn.
• We participate in Ski-Ability, a skiing program for people confined to wheelchairs.
• We host an annual Antique Car Show that is very popular with our residents, family members and the community at large.
• Every Christmas, our residents are taken on a tour of the city to enjoy the bright festive lights.
• Our annual Christmas Bazaar, featuring crafts and baked goods made by our residents as well as vendors from the community, is a huge and much anticipated event every year.
• We provide placement opportunities for students in the RN, RPN, PSW and Physiotherapy programs at Sault College.
• Our Administrator sits on the committee for the Northeast Local Health Integration Network as well as the Long Term Care Committee.
• We also work closely with Sault Area Hospital to find ways to improve care for our residents and seniors in our community, and to reduce the number of visits our residents make to the ER and improve the safety of transfers to and from the hospital for our residents.
