We have a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Not only do we work very hard to integrate residents into our community and feel at home, we’re also committed to making families feel at home here too. The following are some of the measures we take to help our residents settle in and also help family members feel comfortable and get involved:

• Guardian Angel Program: We have a Guardian Angel program where one person meets and greets the resident and family on the first day. He or She introduces them to staff and other residents and helps the resident unpack.
• Resident Participation: Our program department managers meet our residents on their first day to encourage participation in recreational and social activities.
• Welcome Basket: Each new resident receives a Welcome Basket filled with personal items and toiletries as well as a personal lap blanket.
• Personalize Your Room: Residents and family members are encouraged to bring some personal items and furnishings from home to make their rooms feel more like home.
• Private Dining Room: Our Private Dining Room can be reserved for private family/group celebrations, dinners and more.
• Family Involvement: Family members are encouraged and welcomed to participate in activities with their loved one.
• Resident Care Plan: Family members, along with their loved one participate actively in all aspects of the development of the resident’s Care Plan.
• Monthly Newsletter: We publish a newsletter every other month, which is circulated to residents and family members.
• Annual Family Day: Our Family Council hosts an annual Family Day every summer with entertainment, door prizes, a barbeque, games for children and more.
• Family Pet Visits: Family members are encouraged to bring their pets when visiting a loved one (provided they have proof that all shots are up to date).
• Education Meetings: We host regular education meetings for family members to attend. Topics discussed include fall prevention, infection control, nutrition and other relevant topics that affect the health and well being of their loved ones and other residents.
• Family Support: We are always available and ready to listen should a family member wish to talk.

Maintaining strong connections to others is essential to keeping people active and involved.

Getting you out into the community and bringing the community into our home is important to your quality of life. Here are some of the ways in which the residents and staff get involved with the community, and how the community connects with us:

• Resident Outings: We organize weekly outings for residents. Trips include include everything from shopping excursions to Wal-Mart, lunch, movies and boat tours to picnics, dinner at the Legion, Kingston Frontenac hockey games and more.
• St. Lawrence College Bursary: We fund an annual bursary at St. Lawrence College that is given to a student in the RN program.
• Student Placement Opportunities: We provide placement opportunities for students in the RN, RPN, PSW, Admin and Social Work programs at Laurentian University, St. Lawrence College and Trillium College.
• Intergenerational Program: Through our intergenerational program, local elementary school students, Brownies and Girl Guides come into our home to spend time with our residents.
• Annual Christmas Bazaar & Garage Sale: Our Volunteer Committee organizes all the details of our Annual Christmas Bazaar as well as our Garage Sale in the summer. Both events are widely advertised in the community and are always a success.
• Halloween Parade: Each Halloween, the local Day Care comes in for their Halloween Parade. The children parade up and down our halls in their costumes to the delight of our residents.
• Big Bike Fundraiser: We are actively involved in Big Bike fundraiser benefitting the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Providence Continuing Care Partnership: We work closely with Providence Continuing Care Centres on psychogeriatric treatment research projects, studies and innovative treatment alternatives related to mental health issues in older people.
