Our Resident Experience and Action Council for Homes (REACH) group has been recognized as a Canadian leader. The REACH group recently earned a spot in the Health Standards Organization’s (HSO) Leading Practice Library for its approach to resident engagement and co-design. What does that mean? Health care providers across Canada are encouraged to follow Extendicare’s lead to truly listen to and act on resident feedback.
What is REACH?
Established in 2014, REACH is a national group of volunteers that brings together Extendicare decision-makers with those their decisions influence: residents and family members. Family and resident members of REACH provide input and perspectives to leaders on policies, programs and projects that impact all Extendicare homes in Canada. The goal of REACH is to ensure many voices are heard as we strive to continuously improve the resident and family experience.
What is the HSO?
Formed in February 2017 and affiliated with Accreditation Canada, HSO’s goal is to unleash the power and potential of people around the world who share their passion for achieving quality health services for all. HSO develops standards, assessment programs and other tools to help care providers do what they do best: save and improve lives. Recognized by the Standards Council of Canada, HSO is the only Standards Development Organization solely dedicated to health and social services.
