Teeing up for impact | Extendicare hosts 12th annual golf tournament in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada

Clubs were swinging and spirits were high as Extendicare welcomed partners from across our network back to Lionhead Golf Club for the 12th annual charity golf tournament in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC).

This year, our golf tournament raised over $160,000 to add to the continued success of the event. To date, the event has raised more than $1.8 million.

We are proud to continue raising funds in support of the ASC, a nationwide charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and advancing work in search of causes and cures.

“Driven by our vision that everyone in Canada has access to the care they need to live their best lives, Extendicare has been a proud supporter of the Alzheimer Society of Canada for more than a decade. As Canada’s leading seniors’ care provider, the impacts of dementia are close to our hearts, and are witnessed by our dedicated team members every day,” says Extendicare President and CEO Dr. Michael Guerriere.

“This year, funds raised will directly support the Alzheimer Society’s essential programs and services across the country. These include initiatives that promote brain health and public awareness, provide day programs and respite care, offer dementia education, and connect individuals and families with the support they need,” says Christina Scicluna, CEO of the ASC.

Dementia is one of the most common reasons a person enters long-term care.  According to the ASC, the number of people living with dementia in Canada is expected to increase by 187 per cent between now and 2050.

While our annual golf tournament is a highlight of our fundraising efforts, it’s just one part of our long-standing partnership and support of the ASC. Across our organization, teams at our long-term care homes, as well as our home health care division, ParaMed, and SGP Purchasing Network participated in the ASC’s Walk for Alzheimer’s in the spring.

Every day at Extendicare, we collaborate with others because we know we achieve more together. Supporting the critical work the ASC does is one way we live that mission.
